Wash Department

WASH along with food and shelter, safe water and sanitation are the highest priority interventions in emergency situations.

Salient aims at providing adequate water and sanitation services to emergency-affected children and their families to avoid outbreak of disease and death.

Unless good hygiene is consistently practiced by affected people, the danger of diarrhoea, cholera and other disease outbreaks will persist.
This is true in all types of emergencies, from rapid onset natural disasters to long-term crises caused by a range of complex factors.
Salient.H.O provide access to enhanced, unhindered and equitable WASH services to Vulnerable IDPs and host communities in MMC/JERE in Borno State.
Borno State is largely affected by insurgency and has left the crises-affected people in need of access to timely and appropriate WASH assistance.

The protracted crisis in the North East of Nigeria has caused unprecedented consequences on men, women, boys and girls across sectors. The continued insurgency has disrupted livelihoods, broken-down basic infrastructures and services.
In addition, sporadic attacks and military operations have forcefully displaced population from their homes to safer places in search of a better living condition; of this number, women and girls are the most vulnerable. Flooding and fierce winds and sand storms caused substantial damage to WASH infrastructures which affected at least 20 per cent of IDPs living in camps in Borno state new arrivals from hard-to-reach areas, especially women and children, are also in urgent need of WASH support. They include at least 100,000 children.
This program shall therefore deliver equitable and unhindered access to WASH services to IDPs in targeted and host communities in Borno State

Salient Humanitarian Organization (SHO)

“SALIENT HUMANITARIAN ORGANIZATION as a national partner in the CCCM/SHELTER/NFI cluster is giving support to (NEMA ) and (SEMA) by providing Camp Coordination and Camp Management services to the population affected by the ongoing conflict at North-eastern parts of Nigeria particularly Borno state.”

“We registered more than 900HHs new arrivals from various nearby villages that are still experiencing attacks by the insurgents; rapid NFI response was made by our team to meet the needs of 300HHs and the others were advocated for adequately.”

“ Salient also identified more than 1000 shelters to be either partially damaged or completely damaged due to flood or long time usage; we were able to provide improved living spaces, essential household needs and rehabilitation of some these gaps according to our capacity to respond.”
